So to start with…this bike isn’t mine! So I have to say a HUGE thank you to Matt for lending me this for the cross season! It really is a beauty!
To be totally honest, I’m not really the person to write a review on a cross bike! My skills are sub par to say the least, but I am having fun riding it. As much as it pains me to say that, and as much as my coach probably loves it.
As you can probably see, it is canti, which in the current world of cross is old skool technology. Despite them not really working at all, that is probably a good thing for me, otherwise I’d just creep round every corner even more than I already do. Basically, if you want a laugh, come watch me at a cross race. Apparently its hilarious!
Fingers crossed this will be the weekend I ride it into the top 10 of a race. It is coming! Trust me! I will do this bike justice!

As many of you know, I have been trying to sell my Bianchi Oltre Xr4 for some time now, but as some of you don’t know, I have a buyer ready and waiting for my return to the UK. So before it goes, I thought it was only fair to do round two of my bike check series. So here it is!
Frame & Fork: Bianchi Oltre Xr4 w/ Countervail Technology
Gruppo: Shimano Ultegra 11spd w/ Stages PM
Wheels: Training: Vision Team 35 || Race: Enve SES 4.5 Tubular
Finishing Kit: 3T Stem / Deda Traditional Drop Bars (not pictured) / Fizik Arione / Frame Pump
A bike that wins bike races. I can’t argue Bianchi have made an incredible race bike with the Oltre Xr4. Its fairly light, mine being a big frame and with light wheels its 7.4kg. Very stiff, it feels like all the power is going straight through the pedals and into the road. It is very noticeable when swapping from my winter bike to this to come out to Calpe the difference is night and day. Doing sprints on the tank I’m fairly certain you dont actually go forward, but with this is is very fast!
The spec is fairly standard for a race bike, I haven’t changed anything significantly apart from the bar and stem combo, I run a big saddle to bar drop on a long stem.
However it is now gone! And I am waiting for next years team bike…get ready! Its a beauty!

UPDATE! Read about the longest ride this bike has done here –> BLOG
I am adamant it is the time of year now to bring out the winter steed. So I only saw it fit to show off mine. Weirdly, probably my favourite bike, not because of the bike itself, but the memories that are made on the long winter rides. Obviously it isn’t as fast as the Shiv or as attacking and nimble as the Oltre, but there really is nothing this bike cant do! Whether its tackling gravel sectors or flying through fords, it just keeps going.Turns out that ford was deeper than I expected, as high as the skewers. There was also a huge hole at the bottom. It immediantly punctured my front wheel and as I rolled out the other side and had water shooting out of my front tire like a massive spinning sprinkler. Continue reading “Bike Check – Horny Tank”→
